Reading Landscapes was started by Russell Reading in 1987. Six months later, John McAllister, who was working full time in Northern Virginia, started working part-time for Reading. As the business quickly grew, John realized that opportunities were great in his hometown and started working for Reading Landscapes Inc. full time.

The first year of business was conducted out of John's parent's home with a fleet of two trucks. When the tractor trailers started delivering weekly, it was time to move to a new home. In 1988, Reading Landscapes moved to its current home in North Frederick Pike. In 2005, John became Reading Landscapes’ sole owner.

In 2007, Jake Whitehouse was hired as a summer intern. He worked in all aspects of the business while obtaining his degree in horticulture from Virginia Tech. 15 years later, Jake is still working hard overseeing all commercial landscape projects, as well as daily operations of the business. Today Reading Landscapes has 54 employees and continues to grow. Reading Landscapes has the size and expertise to handle any size project or complexity.
